It’s hard to beat one week in the Nevada desert, riding the latest bikes the industry has to offer – for free – but we did it. Just back from Interbike 2012 held annually in Las Vegas, NV as well as the Outdoor Demo held in nearby Boulder City; Bootleg Canyon. If this event doesn’t get your cycling blood boiling, nothing will.
The Outdoor Demo is especially fun since you can test ride just about any bike your little heart desires just by giving up your name badge. Not a bad trade if you ask me. Have to give a load of thanks to all the great folks that had the forethought to add “The Oasis” tent this year, complete with misters (and conveniently located next to the Sierra Nevada truck). Ah, what a treat after taking in the desert temps which felt pretty toasty. Of course there were many other vendors and distributors doing what they do best and sharing all the latest and greatest gear and such. Two fun-filled, action-packed days that work out all those travel kinks before heading into town and the indoor portion of the week.
Interbike 2012 was held inside the Sand’s Convention Center, just behind the Venetian Wed-Fri. Over 750 Vendors participated and gave any attendee lots to take in. Of course, true to form, there is plenty of activity, hand-outs, demos, free-bees, food and classes and Show Specials to fill up anyone’s day. It’s almost impossible to see everything you want to see.
The opening night highlight was the Cyclocross Race held at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex a tic away which we experienced via a shuttle from the Sand’s. What a great event! Super cool venue and views!
Thursday night offered up a Mobile Social Ride down Las Vegas Blvd. Now that was fun! About 70 folks or so participated and made the evening really special.
Overall it was a great week and recharged our batteries for life back at the shop. We are already talking about next year. If you can finagle the trip, you won’t be disappointed. Next year the event is moving to the Mandalay Bay- Sept 17-20 (but don’t forget to add Mon-Tues for the Outdoor Demo). More info at their website: www.interbike.com
